Nathan’s review of a stay at the CERVO

My time in Zermatt was an unbelievable experience. It’s rare to be in a place that balances luxury and mountain remoteness so well. Once you enter into Zermatt, you are transported into an alpine world surrounded by some of the most awe-inspiring, breathtaking mountains you will ever see, with the crown jewel being the world-famous Matterhorn that dominates every view you see.

While Zermatt is an outdoor lovers dream, and many choose to camp in the mountains, Zermatt is home to some of the most beautiful resorts and hotels in the world. I was lucky enough to stay at the CERVO Mountain Boutique Resort for a night, while visiting in Zermatt, and I’m excited to share my review of this wonderful place. Regardless of the options, CERVO is one of the best choices for accommodations in Zermatt, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting this beautiful destination in Switzerland.

THE RESORT

This resort combined a traditional mountain feel with modern design and elements. There were multiple multi-level, mountain chalets, each comprised of several individual, luxury bedrooms and suites. The outside was rustic, with the traditional wooden cottage look you would find in the alps, but the inside was bright, with white walls and a beautiful use of patterns, plaid, and light wood finishes. I felt like I was in a boutique or modern art museum. The contrast was brilliant and I loved the balance of old and new.

However, the best part of the design of each chalet, was that each one included it’s own wellness center on the ground floor that included a sauna, steam room, hot tub, and hot and cold showers. That was such a unique and luxurious element to this resort that made the experience all the more special.

THE ROOM

My room was beautiful, light and welcoming. Large glass windows and doors opened up to a beautiful outdoor deck and view of the Matterhorn, which was my favorite aspect of the room and experience. The room consisted of a bedroom, bathroom and hallway. The bedroom was spacious with plenty of space to sit and relax. The bathroom was really beautiful with a large tub and shower. The resort’s design elements were continued into the room, and I loved the use of pattern, plaid, light wood, black cabinetry and white walls and bed sheets. There was such a fantastic balance that truly made the room special. I also loved the small details, like antique turn dial phone, pillows with the resort gps coordinates and small deer fixtures that called out the CERVO deer branding and logo.

However, my favorite part of the room, outside of the view, was the mini bar, Nespresso machine, and snacks like local popcorn and chocolate, all included in your room. I thought that was a really nice addition to an already spectacular room.

FOOD | BEVERAGE

The CERVO has a wonderful restaurant and indoor/outdoor bar and lounge that looks directly on the Matterhorn. It was a beautiful space you could stay at all day, and throughout the year, they host nightly events and parties that are really fun. I thought the drink selection was fantastic and they offered several great local wines and liquors. The food was fresh, local and delicious. I was really impressed with what the CERVO offered in this category.

SERVICE

Throughout my stay, I felt the staff at CERVO was very friendly, courteous and attentive. They seemed to genuinely care about all aspects of my experience and I really appreciated it. The staff was also very knowledgeable about the area and guided me through some of the best places to visit in town, as well as top hiking places. Overall, I was quite impressed with the service at CERVO.

ACCESS TO THE MOUNTIAN | VILLAGE

This was one of the best parts of my experience at CERVO. When you’re staying at a ski resort, it’s important feel secluded and away from the hustle and bustle of the town or village, but have easy access to the slopes and the town when you want to venture out for some Après-Ski. Included in your stay at CERVO is access to an elevator that takes you down to the Sunnegga lift or direct access to the Zermatt Village. And in the winter, the resort lies directly on a ski path, so you can simply pop on your skis and ski down to the lifts in the village. It’s incredible convenient and a wonderful additional feature that adds to this already fantastic resort.

While my time at CERVO Mountain Boutique Resort was a short one, it was a fantastic experience I would highly recommend to anyone. If you are travelling to Zermatt during anytime of the year, I would choose CERVO as one of the top places to stay, with amazing views of the Matterhorn, luxurious rooms, fine dining and a fun and exciting atmosphere, with easy access to Zermatt Village and the mountains.
